AFL-500
ANALOG FIBER OPTIC LINK
AFL-500 modules

When you need:
point   To transfer an analog signal from a noisy environment,
point   To isolate the signal from high voltage sources,
point   Eliminate ground loops,
point   Accuracy and high Signal/Noise Ratio,
point   Excellent system reliability -
- the AFL-500 is the perfect solution !

By combining fiber optic technology with advanced proprietary hardware,
A. A. Lab Systems provides researchers and industry with the means to isolate a signal from electrically hostile environment, transmit it over up to 100 km to the data acquisition system, while conditioning the signal. This method eliminates the addition of noises generated by electrical machinery, line noises, ground loops and digital noise to your analog signals.
The AFL-500 Analog Fiber Optic Link is used for transferring Analog signals over a Fiber Optic Link. This product is also known as "Analog Optical Link" or "Analog Fiber Link".

AFL-500

The AFL-500 consists of the following components:
point   An Analog Fiber Optic Transmitter - AFL-500/TX,
point   An Analog Fiber Optic Receiver - AFL-500/RX,
point   Up to 50 km of of glass fiber (30 dB optical budget using single-mode fiber)

The link is connected between the signal source at the transmitter (see Figure 1), and the signal input at the receiver.

Features
point   Excellent signal isolation.
point   Prevents ground loops and computer noise effects on your Analog Signals.
point   Transfers analog signals to distances of up to 50 Km.
point   Linearity: better than +/- 0.1%.
point   Low noise; S/N ratio: 86 dB.
point   Input signal: Up to ±10 Volt @ DC-20 KHz(DC to 27 KHz optional).

Advantages
point   Low noise transfer of analog or digital data (such as RS-232 interface), particularly beneficial in electrically noisy environments and for transmission over long distance.
point  For medical tests: the patient is isolated from data acquisition system and from any other high voltage source.
point  Optional instrumentation amplifier input stage provides a differential input, with an adjustable gain of 10-2,000, for direct connection of any sensor such as: strain gage, piezo, EEG & ECG, temperature, humidity, pressure, etc.
point  Isolates delicate test equipment from computer-generated noise and spikes: noises from computer do not return into your system.
point  Eliminates the formation of "ground loops" (when two instruments are connected to separate power lines or have a difference between their ground voltage potentials).
point  Total protection of signal processor's input stage from accidental sensor malfunction (e.g. short to mains voltage or a lightning shock).
point  Replaces bulky coaxial cables with compact fiber optic cables - especially important when rewiring existing ducts.
point  Transfers analog signals to distances of up to 100 km - with very high accuracy.
Technical Specifications
point  Input/output Range: ±10 V standard; ±1 V ±100 mV optional.

Ordering Information
point  The AFL-500 is input single-ended, in 3 ranges:
±10 V (standard) or ±1 V or ±100 mV.
point  Single ended input (S) is standard. Differential input (D) may be ordered with input range of ±10 V, ±1 V, ±100 mV, ±10 mV, ±1 mV or adjustable (A).
point  A stabilized power supply is also required for each side. It can supply up to 5 (optionally 10) receivers or transmitters.

EXAMPLE:

TRANSMITTER / RECEIVER PAIR:
AFL-500 - MM - 1V - 10V - D - R

Where:
point MM = MultiMode or SingleMode (SM) optics - (MM is standard).
point 1 V = Input voltage range(10V is standard).
point 10 V = Output voltage range(standard).
point  D = Differential (S=Single Ended is standard).

point  R = Range in meter
point -27K = DC to 27 KHz Bandwidth
